Time is Limited

Much happens without us knowing, until the consequences hit us.

This afternoon I learned that a pastor had passed away. I was shocked, because he’d just spoken at my church conference this past weekend with his wife and daughter. I was also sorry, because I hadn’t had time to introduce myself properly, yet benefited from his messages.

Last year when I was in Beijing, a friend asked me to pray for another pastor who was in the hospital with cancer. Within a few days, he also passed away. That death was startling, because that pastor and his visions from God for my family and friends had been a part of my life since I was young. Now, before I’d had a chance as an adult to ask for my own blessing, he was gone.

As a human, such upheavals are expected, but still unsettling when they happen. For the imagined decades of time ahead for that person suddenly vanish, and time becomes the most precious commodity.

Last night, I found out that ZhaoXing is publishing another book. In the four years I was in college, ZhaoXing has written and published three books. As she works full-time, blogs, and has a full personal life, her achievements put a different perspective on time. So much can be done in a few years if you work hard at it.

With an impressive cover image much more modern than her last one, her new book will go on sale next week and is titled “Don’t let the future you be disgusted by your present self.” (Read my reviews of her first book and second book)

Youth is not an opportunity to squander time, because there really isn’t as much of it as we think.

Greet others today, express your gratitude, and work harder at life, because the opportunity may not exist tomorrow.
