While I was drowning in midterms and the hectic days of spring break, NYU announced that Federal Reserve chair Janet Yellen will speak at my commencement this May. I didn’t learn the news until NYU sent out an email this morning. Apparently few others had heard because no one on Facebook mentioned the decision. That, or I’m not on the site enough, or few care about Yellen.
After last year’s controversial speaker, Yellen comes as a safe choice. The government, economy and women leaders are generally under-appreciated. She’s not Alec Baldwin, but having her speak will hopefully encourage our class to look deeper into understanding the economy of our country.
