Each of us has personal priorities and preferences, even if we don’t always care to make them known. Sometimes we’d rather that those priorities be ambiguous so as not to offend others if they realize they are not as high on our priority list as they’d like. At other times we don’t want to be ridicules for veering from the norm. But perhaps if we respectfully make our position clear others will understand us better. Indeed, knowing that we act a certain way because we hold to certain principles can garner additional respect.

Then we will no longer be infants, tossed back and forth by the waves, and blown here and there by every wind of teaching and by the cunning and craftiness of men in their deceitful scheming.
