Why do we want to live perfect lives? Why is perfection always the goal, and we feel so disappointed when we don’t reach it?

Perhaps this striving for perfection is a pride in us, an egotistic motivation to demonstrate how capable and successful we are in everything.

God is perfect — peerlessly perfect — and we realize this. When we fail, we come to grips with the fact that we are decrepit humans. But we want to be powerful gods, and cannot because we are not perfect.

Failures remind us that we are not the capable beings we imagine ourselves to be. But in God we have the salvation of the blood of Jesus Christ which allows us to achieve perfection in God’s sight.
