How then should we live?
When we give up the world as the Bible says, are we meant to live the ascetic life of Siddhartha the Samana? Or ought we plunge ourselves into the pleasures of the world as Siddhartha later did in order to realize their worthlessness?
The wise writer of Ecclesiastes thought it out, and found everything meaningless except living for God.
While we live in sinful bodies in a fallen world, we are to enjoy the world God has given us, according to His ways.
Go, eat your bread in joy, and drink your wine with a merry heart, for God has already approved what you do.
Enjoy life with the wife whom you love, all the days of your vain life that he has given you under the sun, because that is your portion in life and in your toil at which you toil under the sun.
Whatever your hands find to do, do it with your might, for there is no work or thought or knowledge or wisdom in [the grave] to which you are going.
Ecclesiastes 9: 7,9-10
